I bought the 14 inch butcher as a base blade for my bushcraft machete project. The blade came with a semi sharp edge that was easy to stone to shaving sharp. The blade itself is MUCH thicker than the seven inch butcher, and is very light feeling in the hand. My only complaint is that the grind lines on the bevels are slightly wavy, but at fourteen dollars for a 14 inch carbon steel blade made in America I'm NOT complaining about that. The handle scales are solid, but can be removed with a wedge, and the rivets can be reused if you are careful. Ontario seems to know that people are re-purposing these knives quite a bit, so they only give the handle rivets a slight press. For me that works out great, but if it bothers you all you need to do is give the rivets a slight tap with a ball peen hammer. All in all, VERY solid blade, especially for the price.

I was pleasantly suprised to receive a knife that was already patinad and stamped with a design the length of the blade. This knife is awesome! It cuts everything with ease and arrived very sharp. Only improvement I could imagine would be some more shape in the grip to make it feal more firmly planted my my hand. Off to the BBQ!

This is a large knife! I prefer carbon steel over stainless. It came razor sharp out of the box. I would recommend these knifes to anyone.

These knives do need a good sharpening when you get them, but once sharpened they require a good steel to keep them sharp, this knife is a good know for slicing ham or cracking the rib cage of a good size steer in one shot

The photo of the knife does not do it justice. This knife is like the old style Old Hickory knives. Very heavy duty. The carbon steel blade is 3/16" thick and takes a great edge.
If you smoke large briskets, or whole hog, this is a fantastic knife. Don't wait, just buy one!
