  2. Excellent Knife 4 Star Review

I gave my Ka-Bar to my brother. I missed it, wanted another. While I waited for a new Ka-Bar, I picked up one of these-figured I couldn't go wrong with an unissued USAF "Knife, Survival, Pilot's"made by Ontario Knife Co..Side by side this is a better knife than Ka-Bar's.Thicker, sawbacked blade, sharp reverse edge, solid hexagonal pommel,NO STAMPINGS.I now have Ontario's SP2 Marine knife,.1875 thick carbon steel blade, Kraton handle as well as Ontario's Marine Bowie.

Came in the mail a couple days after I Had bought it took it out the package and it is just as I remember it as a child. Would have gave it 5 stars but it's not as sharp as I remember it as a child gotta do that myself. I will be buying others from here. Thank you.

  5. High quality reasonable cost knife 4 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Apr 2013

This is a very strongly built knife & sheath. Not surprising since it's a Genuine US military knife. Nothing flashy about it. Just good quality for a very reasonable price.

  7. Most awesome knife! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 25th Feb 2013

I got one of these when I was about 13-14 years old. I have used it and abused it on the family farm. Cutting vines, opening bags of mulch and fertilizer. Using it to bust ice of equipment and the saw is great for cutting light metal and notching wood.

  8. Great solid knife 5 Star Review

Very pleased with the 499. Feels very durable, full tang blade with a hex butt that can hammer and be hammered. Included sheath is a bit tight, but should get broken in over time.

  9. Not what I had in mind 3 Star Review

Posted by on 31st Oct 2012

This knife is a "typical" survival type knife. Smaller than I had hoped for, and blade is not given over to being sharpened. Knife is extremely tight in the sheath, so if you need it in a hurry, then it's not the knife for you. More of a camp/utility knife than any other function. Overall, I am disappointed with this knife.

  10. Excellent tool for the job 5 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Oct 2012

I received my 499 Survival Knife & Sheath yesterday. It is the current issue of the Camillus model that I carried in combat 30 years ago and still own. Comparing them side by side, I am satisfied that, despite minor differences, the quality is identical. One will stay in my home, and the other in my car, for a very simple purpose: to ensure that I will always have a multi-purpose tool near at hand for cutting, prying, chopping, striking, etc. Like any such tool, it is a compromise of size, strength, and utility. But I am very pleased to have an affordable implement, proven by the military and my own experience, that eliminates the unpleasant prospect of facing a difficult situation with empty hands.
