  1. Excellent tool for the job 5 Star Review

Posted by on 19th Oct 2012

I received my 499 Survival Knife & Sheath yesterday. It is the current issue of the Camillus model that I carried in combat 30 years ago and still own. Comparing them side by side, I am satisfied that, despite minor differences, the quality is identical. One will stay in my home, and the other in my car, for a very simple purpose: to ensure that I will always have a multi-purpose tool near at hand for cutting, prying, chopping, striking, etc. Like any such tool, it is a compromise of size, strength, and utility. But I am very pleased to have an affordable implement, proven by the military and my own experience, that eliminates the unpleasant prospect of facing a difficult situation with empty hands.

  2. Perfect 5 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Jun 2012

Just arrived today, as good as I hoped or better. I like the 5" blade compared to my longer KA-BAR. Came very sharp, but not like a razor, almost with micro-serrations. False edge is also sharp which I like but didn't expect. Handle-heavy of course, but feels great, solidly made (including sheath). Couldn't be happier. This one is for display in my collection; will probably order another to use and abuse :)

  3. Same as Above 4 Star Review

Dont expect to cut wood woth the sawback. its made to saw through aluminum. Like the kind found on airplanes. Cause thats what the Air Force has. Airplanes. Not logs.

  4. MADE IN USA 4 Star Review

Made in the USA. what more can i say. Awesome

  5. Great overall knife 4 Star Review

Posted by on 25th May 2012

good overall knife. lennth is perfect and balance is good. handle is a good size, but i have big hands. blade material will feel a little softer than usual, but sharpenes easily. not stainless, so dont be surprised to see rust after a while. Coating on the blade scratches easily, but if you plan on actually using this knife, then that wont be a problem. If you decide to paracord wrap the handle, (i did), the keeper strap wont fit. slap some mink oil or shoe polish on the sheath and youll be good.
