Well...the zillions of reviews I've read on the RAT1 were very much accurate...And they were very good across the board.
After taking it out of the package I wasn't too surprised...it was rock solid in construction...just slight side-to-side movement but none at the bearing/washer whatsoever(it is, after all, a fold-out knife...quite nice)...and absolutely no up-down play at all. Solid.
Sharp as can be expected...sliced paper easily. I have an ultra-fine diamond stone for when the time comes...DMT sells 10 dollar diamond cards which are excellent and cheap for re-sharp needs. Takes a little practice.
Scale(sides)grip is a bit minimal...but nothing that can't be easily tuned..and 'shape' grip is fantastic...inspires confidence.
To find a better knife of this quality for what Ontario is selling them for is unlikely.
It took about 20 seconds of practice to be able to flick it open virtually instantly...just use the thumbnail and not the 'meat' of the thumb..very smooth.
I doubt I'll ever regret buying it...If you get it YOU will see what everyone means by their good reviews.
Overall: impressive
Thanks for listening.

I've been looking around for over a month for the best-bang-for-the-buck in an EDC folder. Look no further! The RAT 1 is a solid, no frills, sharp-out-of-the-box dynamo, that had me wondering why I had taken so long to make a purchasing decision in the first place.
The Rat 1 (I opted for the satin plain edge design) is substantial in it's weight; and the fact that it is 6 inches in length when closed serves as a frequent reminder that it's still inside your pocket. The thumbstud is a bit stiff, but the addition of a little 3-In-One Oil along with continuous opening/closing repetitions will soon begin to loosen it up a bit.
The handle is a wee bit smoother than I care for; but at this price, who's complaining? And speaking of price, I plan on buying 2 more real soon. I have a couple of grown sons, with birthdays coming up, who would love to have one of these little beauties for their own.

Quite a dark horse in the knife world as with many ontario knives(i have no idea why). A lot bigger than i thought it would be. great knife. great opening.

I have been a fond follower of knives for 30 years. I have been carrying folders since I was a kid, back in the day when every kid carried a knife, lighter, throwing star etc. Funny no one ever got hurt, times change! This is one hell of a value. I was skeptical at first being a Tawian knife and all. It has good lock up, surgery sharp blade and decent finish. Like all EDC clips is painted [cheaply] I'll probably have to epoxy spray at some point. A SS clip would be best. This is a hefty knife much more substantial than lets say a whirlwind or delica. I got one for $21 and love it. A GREAT deal!!

I know how well the RAT company trains for survival and how well their knives are made so I had to buy this folder... Wow, I'm I happy! It feels good and beefy in the hand, the blade opens smoothly with your thumb (left or right) and the edge right out of the box can split a hair! Really, my son and I tried it!
The Satin finish is wonderful and is an eye catcher. So nice this knife would make a great gift and at this price, why not?
It's a strong work horse and if needed a tactical weapon.
I was so impressed I bought a second one in all black for the job and gave my SOG Flash II to my son.

Get it, the black finished one has a cheap finnish but this knife is a work-horse. Had it for a year or to and it's still running strong. Aus8 is agood steal, it holds an edge well and is a dream to sharpen.
