The RBS Afghan has become one of my favorite hiking knives. Actual cutting surface extends about 4.5" while the overall extension from the scales is 5.5". The 1" extension provides a great finger grove for carving or scraping with a fero-rod. Not a light knife by any stretch, at 11.5oz you definitely notice the mass of the knife considering its overall size. This mass makes the knife a better de-limber than any knife I've used of its size. The RBS series is 3/16" thick, rather than the 1/4 of the Afghan series. I believe this feature is better suited for a knife of this size, as it slices and carves extremely well.
This knife is sold at a price-point far below its value IMO. Clearly, the attention was placed on the knife, not the knife/sheath package. The sheath is simply too large for a knife of this size--much like the SP46. My guess is, production of the sheath crosses multiple knives. Good or bad, you save $$, but pay for it in a sheath too large. You make the call.
Overall, it's a winner. When you use the knife, you get a sense of solid security, without fear of breakage. Here's a link to a short video with some further explanation--
