The Ontario Spec Plus 8 (SP8) knife is also known as the Machete Survival Knife. The Machete Survival knife looks akin to a cleaver, but is also thick giving it the feel of a machete. The SP8 Machete Survival knife also has medium "teeth" (top serrations) on the spine of the long blade, making it ideal for sawing. Of all the Next Generation Spec Plus Knives, the SP8 Machete Survival knife is the only Spec Plus knife that features a singular guard (Front Quillon) on the grip and a choil on the blade. A flat wedge style tip coupled with the lack of rear quillon (guard) allows the SP8 Machete Survival Knife to be handled similar to a saber grip and used for prying. With all the possible applications, it is easy to see why Ontario refers to this knife as the Machete Survival knife.
The SP8, Machete Survival Knife is 15.125" in overall length. The 10" blade is full tang 1095 Carbon Steel (.250" thick) with an epoxy powder coating. The SP8 Machete Survival Knife features a comfortable Kraton handle with a secure grip.
The SP8 Machete Survival Knife comes with a combination leather/cordura sheath with a lanyard.
The Ontario (manufacturer) part number for the SP8 Mahcete Survival knife is 8335.
The Ontario Spec Plus 8 (SP8) Machete Survival knife is made in the USA

Let's get something straight off the top; Ontario knives are not pretty and their sheaths aren't the best. But,the blades,oh the blades! I now own two , a ka-bar and this beast. Are you a collector looking for something pretty that you are scared to put to work? Don't buy this. Go spend $200 on a Columbia Razel and admire it's shiny beauty. If you are a "zombie chopper" , buy a $20 flea market machete (you'll never need it anyways dingbat). However,if you are a hunter, camper or any kind of outdoorsman, this is the knife for you. This thing is made to work, and you won't be worried about messing it up.You simply can't. I put this baby to work. It pretty much eliminates the need for any other chopping tool. It is not for clearing brush, though, just too short and heavy. It's more hatchet then machete. The sheath is tight and holds the knife well. If you want quick draw , buy a different sheath.
Now on to Ontario Knife Store. Simply the best customer service I have experienced from an online retailer. This was back ordered and they maintained contact with me the entire time, providing me both email and phone updates. And then there is the prices. look around, you won't even come close to matching them, I promise. I am a customer for life of both the manufacturer and the retailer. I will be ordering several more knives in the coming year. Not because I need them (kabar and sp8 cover all the bases) but because i want them. I might even give some as gifts if I can stand to part with them.
